In the first place hell is a concept that was introduced into the Bible in the
Medieval ages by the King George Revision of the Bible. The concept of fire
and brimstone that is. Obviously this was an age of man where people were
burned at the stake because they were somehow different. Its only common
sense that man would create a God that was as brutal as he was.
If there is a God, and he created all of us in his image which would pass
common sense, and we are considered his children, then how is it possible
that he would condemn himself to this fiery hell? Some would say that he
doesn’t condemn you but offers you the choice. Common sense tells me that
God would not give me a choice to be separated from him for all eternity.
Common sense also tells me that he would not give this super important
knowledge of this future crossroads to other people who say the evidence is
in this book or that book. Common sense tells me that for a subject of that
great importance he would tell me directly.
It’s impossible for us to contemplate all of eternity, at least for now it is. But
for arguments sake, lets say I graph 100 million years onto a piece of graph
paper in the scale of days. This piece of paper would reach from the earth to
Pluto, and back again. Now lets look at one lifetime on this graph paper. It
represents one vertical spike on this tremendously huge graph paper. The
rest of the paper, shows nothing. This one vertical spike represents my
lifetime here on earth. Such a small, tiny, spec on what is 100 million years.
So am I to believe that my one spike on the graph paper, that would be like 1
atom inside a tennis ball, is the only chance I get at the heaven hell thing?
Common sense tells me no. Common sense tells me that if I am immortal in
the spiritual sense and I can live forever, that God in his wisdom would give
me enough time to sort things out, if not in this life, than in another.
In fact, a God that would deny me the opportunity of another lifetime to get
things worked out, verses eternity in hell, would in fact be very much ungodly.
If that concept is difficult for you to grasp, then it may be difficult for you to
grasp the concept that you are in fact here now? Common sense tells me
that if I am here now, it’s at least possible that I can do it again, and may have
done it in the past.
Common sense tells me that hell is a creation of man, and not of God. Just
as early man shaped God into the only things he knew at the time, the Sun,
Moon and stars, so did later man as he made God more personal, yet with
the same prejudices as he had, in creating a God that would slay men and
women for his own personal needs.
