How Save Money
By: Gina Clark
In this economy, it’s hard not to spend more and more money each time you go to the grocery store and
put gas into your car. Personal finances are getting tighter, and more people are getting bogged down in
debt. There are things you can do, though, to help you spend less and save money in this economy.
First, eat less meat. It’s one of the highest priced food items we buy at the store, so cutting back can
provide a small amount of relief to our personal finances. Try eating one meal without meat this week.
Next week, make it two meals. Have vegetable soup, pancakes, scrambled eggs or spaghetti (without
meatballs) instead. Get creative. Search online for meatless recipes. Not only will you save money, but its
healthier and actually reduces the risk for cancer.
Another one of the ways to save money is to re-shop your car insurance if you’ve had the same policy for
18 months or longer. Call around and get quotes from several other companies. Then, see if your current
car insurance company will match your best quote. If not, switch companies. Also, if you pay your car
insurance monthly or quarterly like most, find out if you will be charged any fees and how much they are for
making payments. A couple bucks a month can really add up over the course of a year.
Not going to see movies at the theater and not renting videos from a video store can help ease the
tension of personal finances. Instead, sign up for an online program that costs just a few dollars a month.
Usually the price of the online club is equivalent to one trip to the movie theater or 2-3 video rentals. The
videos are sent right to your door so you also save money on fuel.
Buying generic is another one of the ways to save money. Most stores offer a generic equivalent to foods,
health and beauty products and medicines. If you read the ingredients, they are usually the same or pretty
close to it.
Shop at Wal-Mart. I know lots of people who hate Wal-Mart. They say it’s too crowded, too noisy, the lines
are too long, etc. But you can’t beat the prices. (If you’re actually able to find something cheaper
somewhere else, Wal-Mart will match the price.) You also save money on fuel, because Wal-Mart has
pretty much everything: groceries, clothes, make-up, automotive products, medicine, etc. So you don’t
need to go to other stores. Maybe the lines are a little longer there, and it is a little noisier, but if you could
save money every week it could very well be worth it.
It’s important to find ways to save money in this economy. Our personal finances depend on it. Try one of
these tips to save money this week, and next week, try another.

How Save Money
The tallest hurdle to saving money is all in the mind. To get over this obstacle you have
to get into the right frame of mind and stay there from the moment you wake up until
the moment you fall asleep. The whole day is 16 hours of awake time that you can
squander or save a lot of money. This adds up very quickly depending on which side
you are on.
The second tallest hurdle is in not sacrificing so much that you get yourself down from
the sacrifices that you make. Unless you are in dire circumstances don’t cut to the
bone on everything, save a few pleasures that help you keep a positive attitude.
You have to think in terms of long term when saving, since daily the amounts by
themselves are not that great, but time sure does go by fast and before you know it
you will have made so much progress that it will pump you up to keep going. Every
choice you make will decide which side of the fence you are on, from choosing to
drink soda’s rather than taking your own cool aid or filtered water. You may choose to
drive somewhere when it is very hot so you have to use your air conditioner or you
could choose to go later when it is cooler out side. Obviously there are a million
different scenarios and its just something that you have to keep in your mind all the
time.
How to save money directly is don’t buy whatever it is you want, ha ha. Of course that
only applies to things of excess. If you search for e-coupons or free coupons on the
internet you will find ways to save a buck or two here and there. When you are
shopping, continue to buy the things that have emotional value for you such as thicker
toilet paper so that you do not feel the sacrifice of cutting back, but always choose the
cheaper brand products when you do not really care. And next time you go shopping,
buy all the things that you can tolerate the cheaper brand with, in the dollar stores or
big lots because the savings are a big move towards your progress. Why buy paper
towels or batteries at the grocery store? That is a complete waste of money. In fact I
would suggest to begin your shopping in the dollar stores and then go to the grocery
store to get the rest.
Rockefeller once said to turn your liabilities into assets. That is a very powerful
statement! That means anything that is costing money or energy should be done away
with or turned into something that makes money. You have a car, you need that to
work so that doesn’t not count. But if you have a second car and can get by with just
one then sell the one you can get by without. You have a computer that you use to play
on the internet, so figure out a way to make money with it. All the information in the
world exists on the internet if you take the time to find it. You may have a lot of junk
around the house, sell that junk on ebay.
If you have no idea how much money passes through your hands everyday and every
week, then you will not be able to tell your progress with savings. You have to figure
out this amount even if you have to carry a pad around with you everyday for a month.
Then keep track of what you spend the next month to see how much you have
improved.
